“Today, a growing number of churches, ministries, and Christian colleges are promoting Calvinism. While Calvinist scholars claim that Calvinism is complex (and they have indeed created a complex system), the rudiments of it are very basic, and it can be readily understood.
To call something heresy is clearly a strong accusation and should never be done flippantly. For something to be heresy, it must deviate from the fundamental teachings of the Bible. And nothing can be more serious than a deviation from the Gospel itself. Calvinism does present “another gospel.”
John Calvin taught that God will be glorified by bringing billions of people into this world for no other purpose than having them burn in Hell for eternity. This alone depicts a view of God found nowhere in Scripture; in essence, this misrepresents God but also creates a platform upon which “another gospel” has been built that is both fatalistic and makes the sacrifice of Christ no longer freely available to “whosoever may come.” Salvation is no longer a matter of choice. Furthermore, the Calvinist can never actually know if he or she is one of “the elect” thereby placing the Calvinist “Gospel” on a foundation of doubt rather than true biblical belief in the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ at Calvary. If that is not heresy, then what is?” Full book here
Someone does not become a Calvinist by reading the Bible; they become a Calvinist by reading Calvinist materials and that becomes their worldview in which they then interpret the Bible
Perseverance of the Saints
T for Total Depravity:
The Calvinist asks the question, “In light of the scriptures that declare man’s true nature as being utterly lost and incapable, how is it possible for anyone to choose or desire God?” The answer is, “He cannot. Therefore God must predestine.” Calvinism also maintains that because of our fallen nature we are born again not by our own will but God’s will. Calvinism says God forces Himself on whomever He pleases and then doesn’t force Himself on others; and so they are predestined for hell already, including some babies that are aborted and even miscarriages.
The “god” of Calvinism IS a different God. If a person is a “good” Calvinist; that is to say what’s called a “Consistent Calvinist” they will maintain that ALL babies who die were never elect and were predestined to hell before eternity past.
Calvinism’s greatest deception is truly found under “T” in TULIP because their doctrine claims the actual power of God’s messages, any of His messages or communications, is not a reality.
They are saying that Paul lied in Romans 1:16, because they claim no one can hear and believe because they are so totally depraved, when scripture says in Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
If you’re scratching your head saying what kind of “god” is this, I’ve asked the same thing; because it’s certainly not the One I read about in scripture.
Tackling the “T” in TULIP 🌷👇🏻
U for Unconditional Election:
Calvinism says, God does not base His election on anything He sees in the individual. He chooses ‘the elect’ according to the kind intention of His will without any consideration of merit within the individual. Nor does God look into the future to see who would pick Him. Also, according to Calvinism only some are elected into salvation, others are not.
So, basically (according to Calvinism & either Calvinism is right or God is a liar) God is showing partiality even though in scripture we are told He is no respecter of persons; it rains on the just and on the unjust. Acts 10:34 “Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.” And according to Calvinism; you may have been predestined to hell before you were ever born, so God created you, you were born in transgression and sin, you had no part in that, and God has not provided a way out.
According to Calvinism, if you’re not elect God just created you to then just send you to hell. 🧐 🤨
Even though Scripture says Christ died for all (2 Corinthians 5:15 all means all… ) In Matthew 7:13-14 is a picture of conditional election. There is a wide gate opening on to a broad and easy way which leads to destruction. There is a narrow gate opening on to a difficult way that leads to life!
It appears that one may “CHOOSE” which gate to enter. Jesus counsels us to enter by the narrow gate and to walk the difficult road because of where it leads. “CHOOSE this day whom ye will serve …” Joshua 24:15
“But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 19:14 … JESUS didn’t say forbid Joey, Susie and Bob, but allow Jane, Mike, and Greg. Why would Jesus beckon ALL who labor and are heavy laden to come unto Him (Matthew:11:28) if those who are not of the elect cannot?
Below are more passages that refute the teaching that only unconditionally elected people can repent and be saved.
Calvinism would have to include: Israel’s circumstances under the conditional law (a righteousness for them, see Deuteronomy 6:24-25) in the Old Testament, and the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) in the New Testament; Israel being still under the law until the murder of Christ (God’s sacrificial lamb), and the new covenant is then established thereafter, through His blood.
But many Calvinists teach replacement theology; and some don’t even realize it; which is another heresy to believe the church has replaced Israel.
These passages, though, primarily concern mankind as a whole. Calvinism does seem to forget to look at the whole of mankind as Paul explains in his letters, which give opportunity to EVERY individual therein. Romans 1-3 and Revelation covers every period of time – Genesis to Revelation (Adam having dominion over the garden to the last Adam having dominion over the whole sinless earth).
1) Ezekiel 33:11 – reasoning with unregenerate people, Israel, that they need to repent “why will you die, people of Israel?”
2) Acts 17:22-31, note verse 30 This statement is concerning mankind and includes EVERY individual member therein.
3) 1 Timothy 2:3-6 – This statement concerns the same mankind and EVERY individual therein as above.
4) 2 Peter 3:9 – This statement also concerns ALL of mankind. (The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that ANY should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance.)
5) Titus 2:11 – This statement is the grace of God offered to mankind as a whole after Jesus’ death, including EVERY individual.
Once again this is a sadistic “god” that Calvinism has created; and sadly so many people are entangled with this strange god.
Undoing the “U” in TULIP 🌷👇🏻
“L” for Limited Atonement : Calvinism asserts God purposely chose only ‘certain’ persons for glory or eternal life (salvation/heaven) and chose others purposely for sin and destruction damned to hell; remember, they teach that under God’s sovereignty God causes every sin if they are to be considered consistent calvinists.
They also assert that Jesus only actually died for those who were unconditionally chosen or elected. Their argument includes the idea that if Jesus died for all mankind then some of His blood was, in fact, wasted. They do not seem to understand that Jesus shed His blood for Adam (mankind); his kin and Jesus’ blood paid a price for mankind as a WHOLE. Read Romans 3:21-5:18 and 1 Corinthians 15:45-49
But what does God say:
1 Timothy 4:10, “That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the savior of ALL people, and especially of those who believe.”
John 12:32 “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw ALL men unto me.” (All means all and Calvinists hate this scripture they can not reconcile it to their twisted theology.)
Calvinists will use John 6:44 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. “ which they use out of context. Remember God has not forgotten Israel; but Calvinism has.
The context is Jesus is speaking to a JEWISH audience not Gentiles (read the whole thing) and in John 6 they (Jews) should have believed Moses and recognized Christ and believed him. Just preceding John 6:44 that Calvinism uses out of context-He (Jesus) was telling His Jewish audience WHO HE WAS “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: and he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst” (Jhn 6:35).
Once again the Bible emphatically declares “And He (Jesus) is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours ONLY, but also for the sins of the WHOLE world.” 1 John 2:2
👆🏻And this is not teaching universalism or any form of pantheism; every person must decide (consciously and prior to their physical deaths) to appropriate for themselves Christs sacrifice or not.
Calvinism has created a strange god that cannot save you.
Losing the “L” in TULIP 🌷👇🏻
“I” for Irresistible Grace:
(also sometimes known as effectual call)
Calvinism declares that every person intentionally chosen for salvation (while others are intentionally chosen for hell) is brought to Sovereign, Almighty God by His grace that is irresistible. No one chosen will be able to resist God’s grace. There is no Scripture for this idea or teaching.
The document that defines Calvinisms teaching of “Irresistible grace” is found not in the Bible but in The Westminster Confession which states (X,I) “God renews people’s wills, and then goes on to state “yet so as they come most freely, being made willing by His grace.”
Huh? How can I come ‘most freely’ and be ‘made willing’ … which is it?
❓Freely <—> made willing❓
Calvinist author David Steel states in his book The Five Points of Calvinism (pp 48-49)
“This special call (speaking of irresistible grace) is not made to all sinners but is issued to the elect only.”
But The Bible says:
1 John 2:2
“And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the WHOLE world.”
“For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
I will stop ✋🏻 here to say when you are engaged in conversation with a Calvinist; at some point you will be told (quite condescendingly)
“oh you don’t understand, you need to read scripture, you don’t understand scripture, you need to read more about Calvin, you need to read Luthers books, you need to read Augustines writings, you don’t understand the doctrines of grace… you don’t understand the sovereignty of God, etc etc” …this “special understanding” that only the ‘elect’ have, runs perilously close to Rome’s teaching that only “certain” people can understand and read scripture. This is a mixture of pride and gnosticizing tendencies.
What does God say?
Scriptures that demonstrate groups and individual members of mankind do, in fact, resist God such as:
And just follow the Israelites journey out of Egypt and for 40 years; they chose over and over again to resist God; yet God clearly in that shows us His perfect attributes of love, mercy, long suffering, and above all His Holiness.
The ineffectual “I” in TULIP 🌷 👇🏻
“P” for Perseverance of the Saints:
Calvinism postulates that a person cannot lose salvation. If Calvinism stopped there, this would be true however there is more. Like every false teaching, Calvinism preaches a conditional salvation based on works and ‘evidence’ of obedience.
Calvinist John Piper stated “These works of faith, and this obedience of faith, these fruits of the Spirit that come by faith, are necessary for our final salvation. No holiness, no heaven. So, we should not speak of getting to heaven by faith alone in the same way we are justified by faith alone. Essential to the Christian life and necessary for final salvation is the killing of sin (Romans 8:13) and the pursuit of holiness (Hebrews 12:14).” Desiring God
Piper also stated “…no Christian can be sure he is a true believer; hence there is an ongoing need to be dedicated to the Lord and deny ourselves so that we might make it…” Ligoneer National Conference 2000
Another prominent Calvinist RC Sproul in his book, Essential Truths of Christian Faith, RC Sproul argues that believers grow in faith by keeping God’s law.
“We are justified by faith alone apart from works. However, all believers grow in faith by keeping God’s holy commands – not to gain God’s favor, but out of loving gratitude for the grace already bestowed on them through the work of Christ.” – pg. 254
In the very same book, he argues that some people are saved but do not know they are saved, because they have not assured themselves of their election by ridding themselves of sins that trouble their conscience.
“There are people who are saved but do not know they are saved. These people are actually in a state of grace but are uncertain of it. Perhaps they are wrestling with sin in their lives and doubt their own salvation because of a troubled conscience. In this group are those who have not yet made certain that they are among the elect.” – pg. 201
They will also use Matthew 24:13 out of context saying once must ‘endure’ as a salvific statement; when the context of that verse is persecution and martyrdomism in the end times.
What is being said here is the same as all works salvation gospels, this is the typical modern day Judaizers we read about in the book of Galatians that Paul addressed. And then in usual works salvation fashion people will spout out “But faith without works is dead!!!!” Paul condemns works added to faith, while James commends works produced by faith. We must be discerning here because our salvation does not rest on what we do; rather it rests entirely in what Christ has done FOR us. James asks the question in verse 14, “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?” This is the issue James is confronting. If someone says he has faith but does not have works, then he is a liar and the truth is not in him. He is a false convert, a hypocrite who is self-deceived.
This works salvation is in fact unbiblical and destroys Calvinism’s other four points of doctrine (TULIP) plus their definition of sovereignty. Calvinists claim no one can believe the gospel unless God’s grace was given to them, as one was unconditionally elected and atoned for. As already mentioned, there are mysteries that only God knows but one thing consistent throughout God’s Word is, He does not contradict His own truths.
Calvinism cannot, under TULIP, account for Perseverance of the Saints because no one under their definition of sovereignty of God and the first four letters could still be described as “may not be saved” or not of the “elect”. They seem to feign ignorance about the fact that our bodies have not changed and we can, and do in fact, still sin even though we do not practice it as a way of life.
1 John 1:8 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 2:1 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
Calvinists deceive undiscerning Christians by using Jesus’ words to the Jews (this is another heresy of replacement theology) in John to show that no one can come to God unless God draws them and only those are given to Christ. They fail to mention that Jesus says in John 12:32 that when He is lifted up (crucified) He will draw all men to Himself. Draw does not mean they will be willing to believe. They believe and teach everyone God draws is to belong to Christ, but only retort sarcastically to John 12:32 saying “you think all people are going to be saved” which is not taught anywhere in Scripture.
Many people in every generation since Adam, are unwilling to believe God, but that does not change the biblical truth that God desires ALL men to believe and not perish.
1 Timothy 2:4 “This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires ALL men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance.”
Repentance? What does that word even mean?
metanoia: change of mind, repentance
Original Word: μετάνοια, ας, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Phonetic Spelling: (met-an’-oy-ah)
Definition: change of mind, repentance
Usage: repentance, a change of mind, change in the inner man.
But according to calvinism I am too totally depraved (See the T in TULIP) to even have a mind at all, or the ability to change my non existent mind. Why would Jesus Christ tell us to repent (and believe the Gospel) if we are too depraved to be able too? See how utterly twisted this theology is?
What “god” IS this?
Lastly The Word of God says: “Now to HIM who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,” Jude 1:24
“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,” Ephesians 1:13
“Being confident of this very thing, that HE who has begun a good work in you WILL complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Philippians 1:6
“While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and NONE of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.”

The false gospel of Calvinism (TULIP) is sadly resurfacing and appealing more and more to the younger generation.
God has not “damned” or “chosen” (predestined) certain people to go to hell as Calvinism teaches; among many other false teachings.
