Tare also known as darnel grass or bastard wheat, in particular a variety called Lolium temulentum. If the darnel are eaten it can cause convulsions and even death. Distinguishing Tare from Wheat is extremely difficult; so much so that farmers of the time would wait until both the tares and the wheat were mature in the field, and then the wheat 🌾 could be identified and they would send forth workers to pull up the darnel, which was burned in a fire.
“He (Jesus) answered and said unto them (His disciples), He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.” Matthew 13: 37-40
Jesus said that the wheat and the tares grow together. The tares will never be allowed to completely obliterate the wheat, however, try as they might, the wheat will never be completely free of the tares.
